THE 9TH UP-ON INTERNATIONAL LIVE ART FESTIVAL





In 2007, artists Zhou Bin and Liu Chengying founded up-ON Live Art Space, dedicated to building an international platform for live art creation, exchange and research in Chengdu. In October 2008, the first UP-ON International Live Art Festival was held. UP to 2020, it has been held eight times, inviting 88 foreign artists and 142 domestic artists to participate. At present, up-On Art Festival has become a professional live art activity widely recognized by the international art circle.


China grand gallery as a chengdu local nonprofit organization of contemporary art, also dedicated to the study in southwest as the starting point of contemporary art ecology, will cooperate with the UP - ON this year, and as the ninth UP 4 - ON the international scene UP art festival at the venue, one of the common propulsion in the behavior of the purity of art and academic, resultant force expanding art festival of social influence. In the future, Guanghui Art Museum looks forward to participating in and boosting the development of chengdu contemporary art with a historical and international perspective, a more public and open attitude, and a deeper spirit of mission.


 

 

At 10:00 am ON October 22, we invited to the festival observers silence, butyl rise, Huang Xiaorong, angel lee, li jie, Tian Meng, changping and zhang held a roundtable, surrounding the construction of the academic literature database performance art and ecological significance of local art, the UP - ON international issues such as operating mechanism of the art festival in the future and discuss.




The opening ceremony was held in the mountain Theater of the Museum of Fine Arts. Zhang Gefang, curator of guanghui Art Museum, gave a speech first, thanking the audience for coming. She expressed her great honor for guanghui Art Museum to co-organize the 9th UP-ON Art Festival and will work together in the future. Looking forward to the future, Guanghui Art Museum will focus on the research of Chinese ink art, and at the same time focus on and present the diversified art ecology with a broad vision, actively participate in the construction of the future cultural landscape of the city, and strive to become a world-class public art museum.



Zhou Bin, the founder of UP-ON International Live Art Festival, expressed deep feelings in his speech. He said that the UP-ON International Live Art Festival had gone through the initial difficult moment and was getting better and better. The same performance art in China has also become vibrant from its last breath. Up-on will continue to live UP to everyone's expectations.


      

Critic Chen Mo spoke ON behalf of the observer. He was very happy that UP-ON Art Festival was held in Guanghui Art Museum. In his opinion, Guanghui Art Museum, as a new public art museum, fits in well with UP-ON and expects them to clash and spark.




Liu Ao, the artist representative, said that UP-ON is very interesting, just like the randomness in performance art. Her speech ON the stage today was also randomly selected. Please look forward to her performance, which is also the first performance of UP-ON today.


      

 According to THE recruitment of THE 9TH Up-On INTERNATIONAL LIVE ART FESTIVAL, we have invited 8 artists with strong personal characteristics and rich creative language among THE 17 confirmed artists/groups. Came to guanghui Art Museum for on-site creation.




The first artist to perform was Liu Ao from Kunming. In building 5 of Guanghui Art Museum, she brought us her work "Can't Wait Another Day". The whole act lasted for 15 minutes. She begins her work within the artist's self-defined boundaries. She starts by tucking the pillow behind her clothes and lying on the ground, then stands up with the pillow, or interacts with the table and pillow, and finally stands up and tucks the pillow in front of her clothes to finish her work. Weight, depression, tension, veneer... One day could not wait any longer, and the emotions of the audience were brought to a boiling point.



Artist Zhang Wei's work is titled untitled. Standing in front of a white wall, Zhang wei clutched a small cup tightly in her hand. Then she moved forward along the cracks in the cement floor, pausing, squatting, looking up from time to time. When she reached the end, she returned and squatted down. Her movements aroused the curiosity of the audience, who squatted down to see what she had tucked into the slit. The interaction between the artist and the audience reminds us of the boring time we spent with our friends in our childhood. At that time, we did not feel bored. Just like now, we are immersed in the space of Guanghui Art Museum together with the artist.



Li chose to perform in the green area of the art museum in the wan Yanchi, a piece titled "Birth." Dressed in white, she sat on a white chair in the pool, holding a balloon filled with red liquid. The balloon is connected to a hose, which is continuously pressed by spectators and filled with water. Under constant pressure, the balloon gets bigger and bigger as it is pumped into the pool of water. Suddenly, the balloon burst, the red water in the balloon splashed on her body, the side of the pool, the symbol of blood in the hearts of the audience slowly flowing.




The scene shifts back to building 5 of the Museum. Some white stones, 1-2.5cm in diameter, are dragged from the entrance into the indoor site to echo the holes in the ground. They have been shaped by artist Ivan as a series of flowing lines that gradually thin out and disappear at both ends. The artist then surrounds himself with the fine, stirred foam. Over time, the foam slowly returns to its watery form, leaving only a faint mark on the ground.



On the other side of building 5, Wang Chuwen stands in a pile of black threads and begins her work Love Connection. Wang wrapped the black thread around herself and the audience, as well as the columns in the room. Intertwine more and more, running in wrestling becomes difficult. Suddenly, with a bang, the elastic cord connecting the audience and the artist breaks, and the interpretation of love, in this complex web of relationships, comes to a sudden, thought-provoking halt. Outside, behind a glass wall, an impromptu performance was taking place. The two artists, seemingly influenced by the magnetic force of the field, improvise and use the instruments at their disposal to create their own pieces.



Liao yingze's works are in a special space -- the most beautiful "skyline", which is located in a green sky meadow under the dome on the first floor of Guanghui Museum. Liao yingze, dressed in a white dress, slowly walked to a mass of white objects and sat down with a white paint brush to paint her body and the debris on the lawn. Towards dusk, as the painting progresses, another of her companions joins in, playing a mouthorgan, which intertwine with the flute into an evening song. In the haze of white smoke, everything is attributed to the Preface, leaving infinite feelings and thoughts to the audience.



"I love Performance,I love Performance..." Artist Xiao Qing shouted from the lawn of the museum. There are long black curtains on the slope in the southwest of the museum, and xiao qing is helped by his companions as he rolls down and gets wrapped in the long curtains until he is unable to move. In the process of falling, constantly wrapped, the viewer's mood also ups and downs, or thrilling, or trapped low.



He Yu's work is called life disguised as....... On the lawn of the museum, He Yu was curled up in the shape of a baby, tightly covered by a gray cloth. Slowly, as she moves, the cloth folds and she reaches out with her body, slowly curling the cloth around her. When it was over, she was carried away by two of her companions and returned to her infant position. Just as the artist himself said, creation is a way of exploring to find oneself and form a real self, bringing oneself to another dimension of life.
